Our water-seal rim fermenting crocks are each hand-thrown on the wheel, individually glazed, and fired in a high-fire reduction kiln. Every crock comes with a pair of stoneware weights, crafted and fired alongside it for a perfect fit.
The interior is finished with a durable, food-safe glaze based on iron oxide: smooth, dark, and easy to clean. The exterior surfaces vary in color and texture, shaped by the unique atmosphere of high-fire reduction. No two firings are ever the same, and this process creates the rich, unpredictable surfaces that define these vessels. The images shown offer a close representation, but we appreciate your understanding of the natural variations inherent to this firing method.
